Energy lending in 2024: contribution of Ukrainian banks
In 2024, financial institutions actively supported the energy sector by financing business loans to implement generation projects with a more than 470 mW capacity. This was made possible by implementing a memorandum on energy renewal financing signed in the summer of 2024 between 20 Ukrainian banks. The National Bank of Ukraine noted the positive dynamics of this process.
Energy lending results
Between June and December 2024, Ukrainian banks received 3,495 applications from businesses for financing energy projects, totaling UAH 72.8 billion. To date, financing has already begun and credit limits worth UAH 10.5 billion have been opened. The gross portfolio of loans to legal entities, including repayments, amounts to UAH 6.6 billion.
In total, banks have financed more than 470 mW of power generation through loans to businesses. Financial institutions also actively provided loans to individuals: the total amount of loans issued for the energy needs of households reached UAH 567 million.
Results of December
In December 2024, there was significant activity in lending:
- Banks received 261 applications from businesses totaling UAH 4.3 billion;
- 150 loan applications for UAH 2.5 billion were approved;
- Compared to November, the number of loans disbursed increased by 198, and the total amount of funding increased by UAH 2.2 billion.
Thus, the energy sector financing initiative has demonstrated its effectiveness, and banks continue to contribute to developing and modernizing Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
