GSC Game World, the studio behind the cult game series S.T.A.L.K.E.R., is considering expanding the game universe through a TV series adaptation. In an interview with Forbes, the company’s owner, Maksym Krippa, spoke about preliminary contacts with Netflix regarding the potential production of a TV series based on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2.

According to Crippa, negotiations with representatives of the streaming service are at the initial stage, but both parties are interested in the project. The businessman is convinced that adaptation can significantly expand the franchise’s audience and increase its popularity in the international market.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Perfect material for the series

The successful launch of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 confirmed its vast commercial potential. In the first two days after its release, the game sold over a million copies, and interest in the franchise continues to grow. Thanks to its unique setting, post-apocalyptic atmosphere, and deep storyline, the project can become a hit adaptation.

Businessman Maksym Krippa believes that the series can succeed at the level of projects like The Witcher or The Last of Us. He draws special attention to the uniqueness of the Exclusion Zone, which combines real places of the Chornobyl disaster with fictional anomalies and threats. In his opinion, this can interest game fans and a broad television audience.

Opportunities for Ukrainian game makers

Although no official agreement with Netflix has been concluded, the negotiations indicate GSC Game World’s grand ambitions. A successful adaptation can strengthen the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series’ position and draw attention to the Ukrainian gaming industry on a global level.
